Description
Ommatoiulus rutilans is a striking European millipede species admired for its rich reddish-brown body and metallic copper sheen that glows under natural light. Sleek, active, and beautifully coloured, it’s a classic species in the hobby and an excellent choice for both new and experienced keepers.

This species thrives in temperate to warm enclosures with a deep, organic substrate rich in decaying leaves, wood, and moss. They enjoy stable humidity but also appreciate good ventilation and a slightly drier top layer. Provide plenty of bark, leaf litter, and curved wood pieces for hiding and exploring.

Peaceful and easy to handle, O. rutilans makes a wonderful display species and a fantastic clean-up crew for larger, mixed bioactive setups. Their glossy, copper-red appearance and gentle nature make them a perfect introduction to millipede keeping.
