❄️ Porcellio hoffmanseggi ‘Yeti’ ❄️ One of our proudest breeding projects. Back in 2021, we isolated what would become the ‘Yeti’ line here at MicroExotics. Five years on, it’s still one of the breeding projects we’re proudest of. What started as a single standout individual has since made its way into collections around the world, reaching keepers as far as the United States. Watching a line that began here become one of the most recognisable isopod morphs in the hobby has been incredibly rewarding. Huge, bold, and covered in that unmistakable frosted white colouration, they’re a true centrepiece species that never fails to grab attention. The Yeti will always be a special part of the MicroExotics story. ? SHIPPING UPDATE ? Well… apparently the UK has decided to become the Mediterranean. ?? Firstly, thank you all for your patience over the last couple of weeks. I know the delays have been frustrating, and I’m genuinely sorry. Unfortunately, it’s simply been too hot to safely ship live livestock and plants. As tempting as it would be to strap tiny sunglasses to the isopods and hope for the best, their welfare will always come first. The good news is that next week’s forecast is much cooler across the UK, so shipping is back on! Because of the prolonged heatwave, there’s now a sizeable backlog. I’ve reworked the packing process and will have a little help from friends next week to get as many orders out as possible. ? Dispatch Schedule ✅ 29th June – 5th July → Shipping Monday ✅ 6th July – 12th July → Shipping Tuesday & Wednesday ✅ Orders placed from today (13th July) → Shipping from 27th July, as I’ll be away at the Bristol Invert Show next weekend. 3 reasons your isopods aren’t breeding (and why patience is often the answer…) Today’s stars are our stunning Filipinodillo sp. ‘Crocodile’ ? One thing we get asked all the time is: “Why aren’t my isopods breeding?” The truth is, most of the time it’s something simple. Here are the three biggest reasons we see ? ? 1. They’re too dry Many species need a proper moisture gradient. Keep one side of the enclosure consistently moist and allow the other side to stay a little drier so they can regulate themselves naturally. ? 2. Not enough leaf litter Leaf litter isn’t decoration, it’s one of the most important parts of their environment. It provides food, shelter and security. If your enclosure looks a little messy, you’re probably doing something right. ? 3. You’re checking on them too often We know it’s exciting (and we’re all guilty of it ?), but constantly lifting hides and disturbing the colony can slow things down. Sometimes the best thing you can do is… absolutely nothing. ? Bonus tip: Bigger isn’t always better. A smaller, well-established enclosure will often produce better results than a huge enclosure with lots of unused space. Remember, isopods aren’t instant pets. Give them the right conditions, leave them alone, and nature usually takes care of the rest. Watching these Filipinodillo sp. ‘Crocodile’ tucked away under their cork bark is a great reminder that healthy colonies spend most of their time doing exactly what they’re supposed to be doing… hiding, eating and quietly multiplying behind the scenes. ? Tiny spider… BIG moment ?️✨ Managed a successful pairing with my Typhochlaena seladonia and honestly… still buzzing ? For those that don’t know, these guys are an arboreal “trapdoor” tarantula from Brazil ?? — famous for living in little silk-lined tree cavities with a perfectly camouflaged lid. Absolute masters of disguise and easily one of the most unique species in the hobby. The pairing itself? Careful intro ✔️ Gentle tapping ✔️ Male in, job done, and OUT safely ✔️ (the most important part ?) Always a bit tense working with a species this small and valuable, but this was textbook stuff. Now we wait… ⏳ If she sacs, we’re talking some seriously special slings down the line ? Fingers crossed for a nice, healthy egg sac ?? Every piece of bark lifted revealed another wave of little coffee-coloured pods. They’ve now been moved into a fresh setup with deep substrate, plenty of cork, and lots of leaf litter to graze through. Give them a few weeks and this new container will be absolutely teeming again. One of the most underrated Cubaris in the hobby — subtle colours, great shape, and always satisfying to see a colony booming like this. Troglodillo sp ‘lamoa’ another one I’d given up on, started out with 8 of these guys and slowly whittled down to 2, in pleased to say that 2 were a pair and we now have lots of baby lamoas running around the tub! #isopods #isopoda #isopodsofinstagram #troglodillo #woodlice #pillbugs #isopodsofinstagram #microexotics

ATTENTION!! COLD WEATHER DELAYS ❄️ Unfortunately due the extreme cold weather forecast for the next week i will be unable to ship any livestock or plants until the weather warms up. I understand this may be inconvenient and some people are still waiting for orders from the Xmas period but i must always put the welfare of the animals and plants 1st. The website will remain open but I will not be restocking or starting the January sale until all current orders have been fulfilled. Happy new year one and all! 2024 was a big year for me with some big personal achievements. ✅ first full year of self employment ✅ took on a business premises ✅ took on the RHS Malvern spring show ✅ started a whats app community (link in bio) ✅ added 100 new species of plants and inverts to the collection I’m going in to 2025 with just one goal Finish converting the unit, move in and open the physical shop! As we enter our 6th year of trading I just want to thank everyone that’s supported us over the years, be it with a purchase, a shoutout, review or even just liking one of our posts, every bit of support how ever small has been what’s kept me going.
