Morning guys and girls, Apologies for any unanswered emails and messages over the last week, we’ve been away to Dorset for a few days fossil hunting. I’ve come home to an insane amount of orders, dozens of unanswered emails and 1000’s of animals to feed. Due to the exceptional high volume of orders this week I will be packing and shipping all the way up to Thursday and attempting to catch up with all the messages. Apologies for any inconveniences but god damn I needed that weekend away!

Check out these absolute monsters! The rhinoceros cockroach. The largest cockroach species on earth! A Slow Growing burrowing species from northern Australia. Reaching sexual maturity at around 6 years old, the female will produce a small brood of which she will nurture underground for 6 months. I’ve had this pair for a few years now and they are close to maturity so fingers crossed one day we might be able to watch the female raising her brood.

Just finished updating the website with a few new bits and pieces, lots of new marcgravias and a few other oddities, some new inverts and an awesome little acrylic enclosure that’s perfect for jumping spiders, mantids and arboreal spiders. I’m finally back from the @rhsmalvern spring show and what a week it was! I’ve got lots of sorting out and animals to feed today and am aiming to get the website restocked and open for tommorow evening. I was a little apprehensive about bringing bugs along to a plant show but the response we received absolutely blew me away. It was so nice to be able to show people how big a function invertebrates play in the ecosystem, and how we can apply this in terrariums. The vibe in the houseplant festival was fantastic, so many like minded people under one roof, how could you not make some new friends! Big shout outs to everyone new and old we had the pleasure of meeting, but the biggest shout out has to go to my main man Charlie over @eight_legged_emporium without whom I wouldn’t be able to do these shows. Thanks for taking the time off of work to come along and help me run the table drink and beers in the evening. Garlic snails (oxychilus alliarius) is probably one of the best bioactive team members around. Reaching a max of 7mm these tiny snails prefer protein over plants so you don’t have to worry about them eating your prize begonia! This species prefers a temperate climate but will also do quite well in a tropical environment. It’s great to watch these guys going about their business and will use every surface provided to trawl around. I am extremely excited to have been invited to the RHS Malvern spring show this year and have lots of exciting things to show, it’s a big one for us with over 100,000 attendees over 4 days and the chance to showcase the terrarium hobby to a large audience. Evening ladies and gents, it’s that time of year again. The weather has turned for the worst and it looks like it’s going to be a cold one. Orders containing livestock and plants will be subject to delays over the coming weeks. I know we only ship on Mondays but up until the last shipping date for Xmas I will ship wherever there is a break in the weather for your area. I will try to contact anyone who has orders before shipping to work out the best time to ship for your area and at a time that’s still convenient for you. Temperatures under 5C are not safe to ship even with a heat pack so I will be looking for overnight temps above this to send. Orders containing only dry goods will still be sent as normal. I thank you all for your patience at this time of year and appreciate some of this will be for Xmas presents so I will make every effort to get orders out as prompt as possible. Please note the only way for a live arrival guarantee at this time of year is with Royal Mail special delivery and a heat pack. Thai is probably some of the best footage I’ve ever caught in the big room! This video is close up footage of our black fire millipedes (centrobolus fulgidus) mating. Notice how the males front legs are different from the females? That’s because millipedes sexual organs are at the front, those front legs are specially designed to pass his sperm over to the female and If you look closely you can actually see the sperm being passed over towards the end of the video! Can you believe all this is happening whilst they are in my hand! These guys have been at it like crazy over the last few months and the soil in their enclosure is full of babies right now. -Business Update- You may have noticed that I’ve not been very active on social media recently. The truth is I’ve been getting a little overwhelmed. For the last 3 and half years I’ve been building microexotics single handed whilst working full time nights as a care worker. It’s been a real slog and as the business has grown so has the work load. I pack every order, grow every plant, answer every message and care for every animal, and recently I have been busier than ever. The good new is I have decided to reduce my hours at work and going forward I will now be working part time at my care job to allow more time to put in to microexotics than ever before. I’m excited to grow the business further and am one step closer to my dream of working for myself full time! But before I do that I need to spend some real time with my family, I have decided that from 8pm Sunday 30th April I will close the store for 2 weeks to catch up on some of the behind the scenes workload and take my family on holiday. I will be taking orders up until Sunday evening then closing the website for 2 weeks. When I reopen on Monday the 15th of May I’m going to be going full steam ahead with the extra time I have and hope to grow microexotics further. This means more plants, more animals, more terrariums and hopefully more content :) Thank you all for your continued support, more than ever I’m excited about the future of microexotics.
