Description

The Reductoniscus tuberculatus is a fascinating dwarf tropical isopod, prized for its tiny size, heavily textured exoskeleton, and unique appearance. Despite its small stature, this species is highly active and makes an excellent choice for keepers who enjoy observing the finer details of microfauna within a thriving bioactive setup or dedicated isopod collection.

This species thrives in warm, humid enclosures with a deep, moisture-retaining substrate rich in decaying hardwood, leaf litter, and patches of moss. Consistently high humidity combined with good ventilation is key to maintaining healthy colonies. Like other tropical isopods, they feed primarily on decomposing organic matter, while benefiting from regular calcium sources and occasional protein supplements to support healthy moulting and reproduction.

Although slower to establish than some larger species, Reductoniscus tuberculatus will reproduce steadily when provided with stable conditions. Their unusual texture, diminutive size, and fascinating behaviour make them an excellent choice for intermediate keepers and collectors looking to add a truly distinctive species to their collection.
