Description

Pterinochilus murinus ‘Kigoma’ is a vivid regional form of the well-known Orange Baboon Tarantula (OBT), displaying rich burnt orange to deep rust colouration, often with subtle patterning across the carapace and abdomen. This locality is particularly sought after for its intense tones and bold, high-contrast appearance.

A heavy webber by nature, ‘Kigoma’ will quickly establish dense sheets of webbing throughout its enclosure, often incorporating substrate, hides, and anchor points into an intricate network. It may adopt both fossorial and semi-arboreal behaviours depending on setup, readily utilising cork bark, burrows, or elevated structures.

As with all P. murinus forms, this tarantula is highly defensive, extremely fast, and should not be handled. It relies on threat displays and rapid retreat or strike responses when disturbed. A secure enclosure and careful maintenance routine are essential.

Feeding response is typically strong, and growth is relatively quick under optimal conditions. This species thrives in a warm, dry environment with a water dish provided, avoiding excessive humidity.
