Description

Psalmopoeus pulcher , commonly known as the Panama Blonde, is a beautiful New World arboreal tarantula prized for its warm golden-brown to sandy blonde colouration, often accented by darker markings and subtle contrast across the legs and abdomen.

An obligate arboreal species, P. pulcher thrives in vertically oriented enclosures with plenty of cork bark and anchor points for webbing. It will construct silken retreats within elevated hides and is typically reclusive, though it may be seen resting near the entrance of its web tunnel, especially at night.

Fast and alert, this species prefers to flee rather than stand its ground, but can display defensive behaviour if cornered. Unlike many New World tarantulas, Psalmopoeus species lack urticating hairs and instead rely on speed and a defensive bite if threatened, so handling is not recommended.

Feeding response is usually strong, and growth is relatively quick under stable, warm, and moderately humid conditions with good ventilation.

Well suited to intermediate keepers, Psalmopoeus pulcher is an elegant and rewarding arboreal species, offering both subtle beauty and engaging behaviour for those comfortable with fast-moving tarantulas.
