Description

Hapalopus guerreroi is a fascinating dwarf tarantula appreciated for its compact size, active behaviour and interesting web-building habits. A less commonly encountered species in the hobby, it is an appealing choice for enthusiasts looking to explore smaller tarantulas with plenty of character.

Despite its small adult size, H. guerreroi can be an active and engaging species to observe. It may construct silken retreats around hides and substrate features, often making use of available cover to establish a secure resting place. Providing a suitably furnished enclosure with cork bark, hiding places and an appropriate depth of substrate will help encourage natural behaviours.

This species is best kept in a secure, appropriately sized enclosure that allows easy access for feeding and maintenance. Although its small size may make it appear less challenging than larger tarantulas, individuals can be quick-moving and may retreat rapidly when disturbed. Handling should be avoided to prevent stress and accidental injury.

Care should focus on stable temperatures, good ventilation and appropriate substrate moisture. The enclosure should not be allowed to become waterlogged, and access to a suitable water source should be maintained. Small specimens require particular attention to enclosure security and moisture levels to support healthy development.

Feeding should consist of appropriately sized live invertebrate prey, such as small crickets or roach nymphs. Offer prey according to the spider's size and condition, removing uneaten food and avoiding disturbance when the tarantula is preparing to moult.

With its compact size, interesting behaviour and suitability for smaller enclosures, Hapalopus guerreroi is an intriguing addition for keepers interested in dwarf tarantulas. Providing consistent husbandry and secure housing will help support this species throughout its development.
