Description

The Chilobrachys fimbriatus, commonly known as the Indian Violet Tarantula, is a striking Old World species renowned for its rich earthy colouration, iridescent violet sheen, and heavy webbing. As it matures, this impressive tarantula develops beautiful metallic hues across the carapace and legs, making it a favourite among experienced tarantula keepers.

This species is an obligate burrower and should be housed in a terrestrial enclosure with a deep layer of substrate to allow it to construct extensive tunnels. It thrives in warm, humid conditions with good ventilation and will readily incorporate cork bark and other furnishings into its impressive webbed retreats. A varied diet of appropriately sized live insects will keep this fast-growing species in excellent condition.

Chilobrachys fimbriatus is a fast-moving, highly defensive species with potent venom typical of Old World tarantulas. While it prefers to retreat to its burrow rather than stand its ground, it should not be handled and is recommended for experienced keepers only. For those with the necessary experience, it is an incredibly rewarding species, combining fascinating behaviour with spectacular webbing and beautiful colouration.
