Description

Armadillidium insulare is a large and impressive pillbug species, notable for its size and robust body compared to many other Armadillidium. Originating from Mediterranean islands, they are well-adapted to warmer, drier climates than some of their relatives, making them a fascinating choice for isopod keepers who enjoy species with different environmental preferences.

This species thrives in enclosures with a clear moisture gradient, leaning toward drier conditions with good ventilation. They still require access to a humid retreat, along with plenty of leaf litter, bark, and decaying wood. Colonies establish steadily in captivity but benefit from slightly warmer temperatures to breed at their best.

With their larger size and unique husbandry needs, Armadillidium insulare makes an excellent choice for intermediate to advanced keepers who want to expand their collection with a striking Mediterranean species.
