Description

The Armadillidium badium is a beautiful Mediterranean isopod species, appreciated for its smooth, rounded body and rich chestnut to dark brown colouration. Its understated natural appearance and hardy nature make it a fantastic choice for both display colonies and keepers looking to explore some of the less commonly available Armadillidium species.

This species thrives in a well-ventilated enclosure with a deep, calcium-rich substrate, plenty of decaying hardwood, leaf litter, and a well-defined moisture gradient. Like many Mediterranean isopods, A. badium prefers a balance of humid and drier areas, allowing individuals to regulate their own moisture levels. A varied diet of decomposing leaf litter, rotting wood, calcium sources, and occasional protein supplements will encourage healthy growth, successful moulting, and steady breeding.

Armadillidium badium is a reliable breeder once established and is well suited to both beginners and experienced keepers thanks to its resilience and straightforward husbandry. Its attractive natural colouration and ease of care make it a welcome addition to any isopod collection.
